Hi, I’m Doctor Lavinia Ekong, PsyD.
I am a Licensed Psychologist, Marriage and Family Therapist and Relationship Specialist here in Southfield, Michigan.
For over 30 years, Ekong Counseling Center has been helping individuals, couples, and families grappling with issues such as trauma, grief, infidelity, addiction, communication, conflict resolution, and more. We provide hyper-focused therapy sessions for individuals, couples, and families, as well as seminars and workshops that teach practical skills for creating the relationships you desire.
I earned my Masters of Social Work from Wayne State University right here in Detroit and my Doctorate of Clinical Psychology at Michigan School of Professional Psychology in Farming Hills, Michigan. I am a therapist, teacher, speaker, and workshop presenter. I also serve as a mentor and clinical supervisor for social work and psychology students.
Imago Relationship Therapy
Ekong Counseling Center practices a form of relationship therapy called Imago.
With Imago, we acknowledge these issues and work to not blame or shame our partner. We embrace differences to enhance empathy and understanding of our partners’ core issues in order to connect more deeply and lovingly.
Could Better Relationships Be the Key to Your Happiness?
I believe that relationships of all kinds are the lifeblood of happy, successful lives.
- Our relationships with our parents, siblings, and other relatives form who we are as adults.
- Relationships with our spouses or significant others support, guide, and drive us through life
- Those with our coworkers and friends provide social structure for our choices.
If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, poor communication, addiction, or any other emotional challenge, chances are it’s because of unresolved hurt, and it’s affecting your peace of mind.
Once you see this connection, you can begin to move past the issues of yesterday and move towards a happier, more fulfilling life in the future. We all have the capacity to create the relationships we desire, sometimes we just need help learning how.
